(Not) A COMPETITION
Posted on
Today is a good day for a competition because the French cover for Age of Assassins (Bragelonne Jan 2018) was released, and what a beautiful thing it is. (Keep going past it once your eyes are suitably feasted though, there’s free stuff down there.)
Anyway, you’re probably reading this because you follow me on twitter (@dedbutdrmng) but in that case, a competition to win a copy of (English Language) Age of Assassins is useless to you because, well, you probably already have numerous copies that you have read literally hundreds of times. Don’t worry, that’s quite normal, but I want to do a competition, so what can I do? What can I offer you?
Oh, it is so hard to think. I feel so useless and demoralised.
WAIT!
Everyone always wants another copy, right?
NOT EVERYBODY!
Really. Oh, well, that is quite saddening.
HANG ON!
I KNOW!
How about a competition NOT to win a copy of Age of Assassins?
YES.
WAIT, WHAT?
I know, sounds ridiculous[1], right? But I promise it isn’t. Just tweet to me, the name of a friend you think NEEDS a copy of Age of Assassins using the hashtag #NOTWIN and why they should get a copy, then get them to follow and/or sign up for my newsletter[2] and I’ll pick a suitably deserving winner on Friday the 17th of November.
WE WILL DO MURDER BASED GOOD TOGETHER, THIS IS GOOD FOR BOTH OUR KARMA![3]
Now, do you have questions? OF COURSE YOU DO, let’s try and answer them.
FAQ
Q) Can I nominate myself?
A) NO, how rude! You already have copies, but if in some strange world you did wish to be nominated maybe you could ask a friend to nominate you. Though it would be VERY NAUGHTY and I do not approve.[4]
Q) My friend isn’t in the UK, can I still enter them into the competition?
A) Yes. THE BOOKS MUST FLOW.[5]
Q) Can you sign the book for my friend?
A) Try and stop me.
Q) Last competition you tried to give away a book your cat had urinated on, is that book again?
A) Do you want it to be that book, cos it can be if that’s your thing. Otherwise no.
FOOTNOTES
1 Pretty standard for me if we’re honest.
2 Don’t worry, I barely ever send the newsletter out because I am very forgetful.
3. Don’t actually believe in karma but doing good things is always good, right?
4 Though, seriously, how would I know? DON’T TELL THEM THAT! Too late, sorry. RJ, you are such an idiot.
5 Oops, sorry wrong genre.
RANDOM EXTRA INFO FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO READ RIGHT TO THE BOTTOM, WELL DONE, THOSE PEOPLE.
Age of Assassins has so far been shortlisted for the Booknest.EU best debut award and the Compton Crook award for best debut novel. Good eh? Bit more than I expected to be honest but it clearly means that by being here you have proved you have EXCELLENT taste. Well done you. Just take a moment to think about how great you are.
